Running a little behind this week. There was plenty of news going on with Google I/O going on. Google Wave was released out of Beta, I didn’t realize it was still in beta. It seems like they lost a lot of hype and momentum on the product, but I hope there is a second wave of enthusiasm. Bigger news from Google was the partnerships that will help Google TV and Froyo. But lets get the good links!
Cambridge based Hubspot had exciting news about Brian Halligan who was named a Finalist for the Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award. They certainly have a lot of momentum after raising a nice round of funding earlier this year as well as numerous other milestones with sale and site traffic.
Last week I had a post from SEOMoz and this week I do again, this time with a different author. Lindsay writes, 4 Ways to Improve your SEO Site Audit, the post discusses strategies for making the audit easier for clients to navigate and for them to understand.
In one of the shortest posts I’ve ever seen GIGAOM has a quote from Hakum Wium Lie about the future of the internet and its function. If I wrote anymore about it this snippet would be longer than the post. Another link goes to GIGAOM that discusses the success from the latest Y Combinator class. It is exciting news for the incubator, but especially good news for the Y Combinator startups.
In what has become one of my least favorite blog post titles, WordStream’s Ken Lyons declares SEO DEAD!... or maybe not. Ken shows us some interesting infographics from Google Insights to show, maybe SEO is losing the momentum that some might think.
And finally two links to videos I found particularly fun and interesting. Marketing Pilgrim has a post about Google TV with a great video from Google breaking down the features. The second video is less related to anything innovation, social media or SEO related. As many of hopefully the World Cup is coming this summer, PSFK has the video of the new Nike “Write the Future” ad for the World Cup.
Some of the links were off topic, but I felt them fun and necessary to share. I wouldn’t want to cheat anyone out of them. I was late to post this week I apologize, work and life have been hectic recently, I’m hoping as we get into the swing of summer things will settle down! Look out for a post in the middle of next week.

I am having trouble putting my thoughts together for a post and I have wanted to start this segment on the blog for a while. This week we have some old but quality posts from some of my favorite blogs.
This post on link building comes from SEO Book. In my experience it has been one of the most talked about and most referenced link building articles in the industry. Aaron Wall and Andy Hagans list, “101 Ways to Build Link Popularity” is a comprehensive post. If you haven’t read it yet I highly going through and seeing if there is a strategy you could use, and if you haven’t read it in a while I recommend you go back through and give it another read.
The next post from SEOmoz by Rand, 11 Best Practices for URL’s. This article is from 2006, but still many of them remain best practices today. URLs are an often overlooked part of SEO and more attention should be put towards them. Number 10 is important, be sure to keep all of your URLs case sensitive, I have seen it a lot where Google views the uppercase and lowercase URLs as different. All the best practices are great though and it is certainly continues to be a great resources when building URLs.
If you’ve ever struggled writing title tags or teaching copywriters/content producers how to write them, this is a great post for you from WordStream by Ken Lyons. An SEO can find themselves struggling to write title tags, these formulas can make that tough process much easier. I have also used this article as a resource when teaching friends and co-workers how to write good title tags with keywords.
I hope you use these links as a resource. Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

Boston SEO Startup Wordstream Raises New Funding

Boston SEO Startup WordStream has raised a new round of funding. It was announced this weekend by Techcrunch that they have raised $6 million. According to TechCrunch the round of funding comes from Egan-Managed Capital and Sigma Partners. MediaPost has a great article that goes in depth on what went on behind the scenes before WordStream secured capital from Egan-Managed Capital.
WordStream continues to push out great keyword management products to help with keyword research. I have been very impressed with the products I have seen through demos and my own personal experience. Most recently they launched SEO for Firefox which is a great tool for content producers looking to perform keyword research while writing in their content management system.
Along with SEO for Firefox, Wordstream has free SEO tools and subscription tools for SEO and PPC which are their core products. I am yet to find a competitor to their keyword research products, although Microsoft Excel and other spreadsheet software companies are indirect competitors. Having met people from WordStream before, I am confident they will continue to create innovative tools and to help push the SEO industry forward.
